Birdwatching tour from Copenhagen with an ornithologist

Denmark and southern Sweden lie on one of Europe's most important migration routes. We leave Copenhagen with a professional ornithologist who knows every corner of the coast, knows where and when the birds appear, and helps you identify what you see, at an easy pace and without disturbing the animals.

It is a single tour and the route depends on the time of year: in autumn we go to Falsterbo, in southern Sweden, one of the best places in Europe to watch migration; the rest of the year we explore the cliffs, fjords and salt marshes of South Zealand. Your ornithologist picks the best destination according to wind, weather and what is being seen that week.

It is designed for very small groups, both for beginners and for experienced birdwatchers.

How the day goes

• Early pick-up at your hotel or cruise ship in Copenhagen
• Autumn (August to October): we cross the Øresund Bridge to Falsterbo, with the lighthouse, Nabben and Skanörs Ljung to watch the migration of raptors and small birds
• Rest of the year: South Zealand, with Stevns Klint, Præstø Fjord and Feddet, and optionally Møn on a longer route
• Lunch break in the area, then back to your hotel or cruise ship

Your ornithologist

• A professional specialised in the birds of Denmark and southern Sweden, who drives, guides and explains throughout the day
• Helps you identify species by their look, flight and song
• Tells you how migration works, why birds choose each place and how they behave
• Knows the best spots and lookout towers, and changes the route if wind or weather call for it
• Adapts to the group: easy pace, no rush, and total respect for the birds and their surroundings

Birds you may see

• Raptors: honey buzzard, sparrowhawk, common buzzard, osprey, red kite and, with luck, white-tailed eagle
• Peregrine falcon on the Stevns Klint cliffs
• Water and shore birds in fjords and salt marshes: waders, geese and ducks
• Small migrating birds

• Bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes. Binoculars: to be confirmed
